AMD ha lanciato due nuovi processori dual-core destinati all'equipaggiamento dei sistemi desktop e prodotti con un processo di fabbricazione a 45nm. Si tratta dell'Athlon II X2 250 e del Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition. Quest'ultimo va ad ampliare la linea dei Phenom di seconda generazione con la prima soluzione a due core.
L'Athlon II X2 250 offre un buon livello di prestazioni e funzionalità (tra cui in primis il pieno supporto di Windows 7, che sappiamo essere ottimizzato per i chip multi-core, e la dotazione della tecnologia AMD PowerNow! 3.0, che permette in generale di ridurre il consumo di potenza e di conseguire nello specifico un TDP pari a 65W), pur avendo un prezzo molto contenuto.
Il Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition amplia la piattaforma Dragon di AMD e supporta tutte le più recenti tecnologie AMD, tra cui la OverDrive 3.0. Il chip maker statunitense ha ideato questo processore per rispondere in pieno alle richieste degli utenti definibili come enthusiast e/o overclocker.
