La nuova soluzione deve essere inquadrata nell'ambito della piattaforma Dragon: può vantare un valore della frequenza di clock per core, pari a 3.4GHz, mai raggiunta da altri chip di AMD.
Il nuovo Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition ha un socket di tipo AM3; supporta la memoria centrale RAM di tipo DDR3 o DDR2.
