Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, Verbatim ha annunciato un nuovo drive SSD, con capacità di 32Gb e il supporto della cifratura AES a 256-bit, caratterizzato dalla dotazione di una duplice interfaccia per il collegamento con il mondo esterno. L'unità, infatti, è dotata di una interfaccia USB 2.0 da un lato e di una interfaccia eSATA dall'altro.

Qualora la device sia collegata ad una porta eSATA, le prestazioni ottenibili sono massime e prevedono una velocità di lettura che può raggiungere la soglia dei 60MB/s e una velocità di scrittura pari a 25MB/s. Il livello di performance diminuisce ma la portabilità aumenta utilizzando il connettore USB 2.0, che rende possibili una velocità di lettura massima pari a 26MB/s ed una velocità di scrittura pari a 15MB/s.

Il nuovo SSD eSATA/USB Combo può essere impiegato in ambiente Windows, Mac OS X e Linux.

Egham, UK 27 October 2009 - One device, two integrated interfaces: with the Combo SSD drive, Verbatim is combining the advantages of an eSATA high-speed connection with the user-friendliness of a USB drive. The powerful SSD Flash storage technology can transfer up to 32GB. The password-protection software EasyLock and 256-bit AES encryption keeps confidential data secure. The Verbatim eSATA/USB Combo SSD 32GB is available from specialist retailers now.

The eSATA interface of the Verbatim Combo SSD drive delivers read access speeds of up to 60MB/sec and write access speeds of up to 25MB/sec, while the conventional USB 2.0 interface enables data to be read at speeds of up to 26MB/sec and written at speeds of up to 15MB/sec.

The completely portable, built-in EasyLock software simultaneously encrypts documents as they are transferred to the Combo SSD drive. EasyLock software guarantees 256-bit AES software encryption and minimises the risk of data loss and theft. (For older eSATA ports that do not carry current, there is a separate Y-cable included that creates a functioning eSATA port from the USB (power) and eSATA (data).)
