Con il comunicato stampa di seguito allegato, AMD ha annunciato ufficialmente la sua seconda generazione di video card DirectX 11 denominata AMD Radeon HD 6800. Come da tradizione, AMD ha inaugurato la nuova linea lanciando due soluzioni di fascia medio-alta, denominate AMD Radeon HD 6870 e AMD Radeon HD 6850.

In accordo al produttore, le Radeon HD 6800 assicurano prestazioni più elevate di circa il 30% rispetto ai prodotti omologhi offerti dall'azienda competitor NVIDIA, ed assicurano il migliore rendimento dal punto di vista della efficienza energetica.

Tra le feature delle nuove schede grafiche, presentate da AMD in dettaglio, specifiche incluse, a partire da questa Web page, segnaliamo le tecnologie AMD Eyefinity, per l'ambito multi-monitor, Unified Video Decoder 3 (UVD), per il playback dei contenuti in HD, HD3D, per la visualizzazione stereoscopica dei game e dei film 3D, e EyeSpeed, per la visualizzazione estremamente veloce dei contenuti grafici 2D e 3D.

Sono già sul mercato on line le video card AMD Radeon HD 6870 e AMD Radeon HD 6850 (per quest'ultima AMD ha indicato un SEP, Suggested E-tail Pricing, pari a $179, ndr) assemblate dai principali board partner. AMD ha citato in particolare ASUS, Club 3D, Diamond Multimedia, Force3D, GIGABYTE, HIS (Hightech Information Systems), MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE Technology, VisionTek e XFX.
