Kingston Technology ha annunciato la nuova gamma di drive a stato solido con interfaccia SATA 3.0, o SATA 6Gb/s, denominata HyperX SSD, la prima linea di Solid State Drive by Kingston basata su un controller prodotto da SandForce (si tratta del chip SandForce SF-2281, ndr).
I nuovi SSD, che il produttore ha progettato per il mercato consumer, e più in dettaglio per i gamer, gli enthusiast e per coloro che puntano a performance di buon livello, sono disponibili in varianti da 120GB e 240GB; in abbinamento a host compatibili con SATA 3, essi garantiscono una velocità di lettura sequenziale pari a 525MB/s, mentre quella in scrittura è pari a 480MB/s. Il numero di operazioni nell'unità di tempo è invece pari a 20.000/60.000 in lettura/scrittura per il modello da 120GB e a 40.000/60.000 per la variante da 240KB (logica random, blocchi da 4K).
L'affidabilità dei nuovi SSD, che supportano le tecnologie di TRIM e S.M.A.R.T, è assicurata dalla dotazione di memorie NAND di Intel prodotte con processo di fabbricazione a 25nm e capaci di offrire un numero di cicli di P/E (Program/Erase) pari a 5K (la precedente generazione di Kingston vanta un valore pari a 3K in termini di tale parametro).
