Enhanced
graphics and video capabilities provide system integrators and OEMs
with a rich, flexible platform for building robust AMD Athlon 64 and
AMD Sempron processor based PC systems
Taipei,
Taiwan, 21 October 2005 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator
and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions,
today announced the VIA K8M890 core logic chipset featuring the new S3
Graphics DeltaChrome Integrated Graphics Processor core designed to
meet the requirements of the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista
operating system and rising high definition video standards.
Enabling support for DirectX 9.0 and Pixel Shader 2.0 for high quality
video processing, the VIA K8M890 also boasts the Chromotion Video
Display Engine for enhanced visual output, extensive display support
including all HDTV output formats up to 1920x1080p, advanced 2D/3D
graphics capabilities, comprehensive de-interlace support and DuoView
for enhanced productivity and presentation capabilities. Support for
the latest PCI Express x16 discrete graphics cards allows for powerful
system upgrades and makes the VIA K8M890 chipset a highly flexible,
all-round platform for system builders looking to cover multiple market
segments with a single motherboard design.
Featuring the high bandwidth Ultra V-Link bus, the VIA K8M890 combines
with the latest VIA South Bridges, including the recently introduced
VIA VT8251, to create a full specification platform with high end
digital media capabilities including VIA Vinyl HD Audio for richer
sound reproduction, additional PCI Express connections for the new
generation of high speed peripherals, and sophisticated storage
capabilities.
"The VIA K8M890 builds on VIA's
strong position as the leading supplier of IGP chipsets for the AMD64
platform, and reinforces our commitment to OEMs and system integrators
to develop powerful yet versatile platforms," commented Chewei Lin,
Vice President of Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "With the
new S3 Graphics DeltaChrome IGP core, we have designed in graphics and
video headroom to ensure AMD64 platforms are equipped to support future
graphics and high definition multimedia requirements."
"The IGP chipset market has been growing at a fantastic rate for the
past five years, representing 52% of the total PC market in 2004 and is
expected to grow to 69%," commented Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie Research.
"A significant reason for this is that fully featured IGP chipsets,
such as the VIA K8M890, enable manufacturers to have a platform on
which they can develop a wide range of offerings, from entry level
systems, to higher end desktops that will potentially use discrete
graphics cards."
The VIA K8M890 chipset is
available now and boards featuring the chipset will be available from
all the world's leading motherboard manufacturers in Q4 of this year.
