Kingston Digital adegua la propria offerta, in termini di SSD, al mercato enterprise con nuove soluzioni per applicazioni "mission-critical" lanciando la nuova linea di drive a stato solido da 2.5-inch SSDNow E100, che al momento include tre differenti prodotti, siglati SE100S37/100G, SE100S37/200G e SE100S37/400G, e caratterizzati da una capacità di memorizzazione pari a 100GB, 200GB e 400GB rispettivamente, e da una interfaccia verso il mondo di tipo SATA 3.0.

Kingston, presentando i drive al Moscone Center di San Francisco negli U.S., promette la massima affidabilità e longevità per gli SSD E100, i quali sono realizzati con la tecnologia Enterprise MLC (eMLC) che, rispetto alla tecnologia standard (MLC), conferisce ai drive una maggiore affidabilità, quanto mai indispensabile se si tratta di componenti che, come in questo caso, sono progettati per l'impiego in ambiti "mission-critical" come, ad esempio, i data center, per cui necessitano di essere "up and running" 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7.

Tra le tecnologie incluse nelle unità SSDNow E100 il produttore cita il controller SF-2500 di SandForce, la tecnologia DuraWrite che ottimizza le performance in lettura e scrittura dei dati e RAISE, che fornisce una correzione avanzata degli errori.

Per fissare le idee, dal punto di vista delle performance, il modello da 400GB, in fase di accesso random con blocchi da 4k, esibisce un valore massimo di IOPS pari a 52000 in lettura e a 37000 in scrittura. Con accesso sequenziale, tutti i modelli possono assicurare un transfer rate massimo pari a 535MB/s in lettura e a 500MB/s in scrittura.

Al momento prezzo e data di lancio degli SSD SSDNow E100 non sono stati ufficializzati da Kingston Digital.

The new drive enables enterprises to accommodate the performance demands required in support of big data and virtualization initiatives. The new Kingston E100 SSD achieves up to 10X improvements in endurance and reliability over client SSDs on existing hardware, while drastically reducing the physical footprint as significantly fewer SSDs are needed to handle the tasks of many traditional hard-disk drives (HDD).

The performance and processing requirements required in the rapid analysis of massive data sets and large collections of virtual systems have pushed many servers far beyond their breaking point. The next generation E100 SSD provides vastly higher IOPS compared to HDDs, dramatically reducing processing bottlenecks, computer latency and physical system limitations.

In a recent virtualized database performance test that compared Kingston's Enterprise SSD with traditional HDDs, the review "found that replacing a solution consisting of a server with an external chassis containing 24 HDDs with only six internal SSDs increased total database performance by up to 91.8 percent." The amount of power consumed "while idle and while running database workloads for both revealed that Kingston's SSDs used up to 51.0 percent less power than the HDDs, and increased performance per watt by a staggering 184.2 percent."
