In accordo a quanto anticipato pochi giorni fa (cfr. questo documento) le motherboard basate sull'attuale chip-set al top di gamma della linea di MCP di NVIDIA sono affette da problemi di instabilità e di controllo non corretto dei dischi SATA.
Il chip-maker americano ha rilasciato una versione rivisitata del bios (NVIDIA hotfix NV121906), da utilizzare con le schede madri realizzate in maniera perfettamente aderente al design reference - indicate anche con "Designed by NVIDIA" - da EVGA, BFG, Biostar ed ECS.
L'elenco ufficiale delle motherboard a cui l'update è dedicato è il seguente:
- EVGA nForce 680i SLI/li>
- BFG nForce 680i SLI
- Biostar TF680i SLI Deluxe
- ECS PN2-SLI2+
La nuova release del bios è stata sottoposta, prima della sua pubblicazione, ad un intenso step di testing a cui hanno partecipato anche gli utenti finali: l'esito positivo della sperimentazione ha permesso la divulgazione dell'aggiornamento che verrà installato di serie sulle motherboard con nForce 680i non ancora in commercio.

Some NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI "Designed by NVIDIA" motherboard customers have reported experiencing disconnect or write error issues with SATA disk drives. To address this, NVIDIA has released a BIOS update for the NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI "Designed by NVIDIA" motherboards that eliminates this bug.
NVIDIA strongly recommends that all customers upgrade their motherboards to this new BIOS, regardless of whether or not they have experienced this bug.
This upgrade will preserve all of your current computer settings, and will likely improve your system stability.
Details:
This update is related to SATA disk drives and system instability. System instability is observed in the following ways (not a complete list):
- Random application shutdown
- Corrupted boot drive
- "Blue screen of death"
- Corrupt data
This update will improve system stability and prevent future stability issues related to SATA disk drives on those systems requiring this hotfix.
